I do a lot of traveling with some very sensitive and expensive equipment.

Although Peru is a beautiful country, there are some places that are safer than others and you want to be sure that you are safe and so are your valuables.

Here are some suggestions to make your trip a success !

To fly anywhere in Central and South America we recommend TACA airlines. They have excellent service, the safest airplanes, nice spacious seats, and great rates.

You need to check flights: From your city to LIMA from LIMA to CUSCO then back from CUSCO to LIMA after you have visited Machu Picchu

In LIMA we recommend that you stay in Miraflores

It is an area outside of the main city right on the coastline and it is beautiful and much safer than LIMA.We recommend the Marriott. It is a beautiful hotel right on the ocean and by far the best value

In Cusco you will definitely want to stay at the Monasterio which is an old 15th Century Monastery although there are plenty of good hotels to choose from

 

At Machu Picchu you can either stay at one of the hostels in the small town at the foot of the mountain, ( often called aqua calliente for its hot springs, but they have recently changed the name of the town to Machu Picchu).

We recommend Gringo Bills it is the safest. But for a truly magical experience we suggest the Sanctuary Lodge. The only hotel at the top of the mountain, and it is literally steps away from the citadel itself.

We definitely suggest you use Hotels.com because some of these hotels can get kind of expensive, and for some reason we always get the lowest rates with them...

When you are in the mountains or hiking through the Inca trails it can be a little chilly, and some of the rocks may be difficult to walk on with regular shoes. We recommend a pair of good hiking sneakers and maybe a pull-over sweater or jacket. You can find lots of great stuff at unbelievable prices at this place...
