Chichen Itza Yucatan Mexico
The High Priests temple - Ossario Pyramid Mayan
Ruins -
Like its bigger cousin, Ossario dominates a major platform of Chichen Itza. Hidden amongst the thick Yucatan jungle you find this step pyramid to be a very interesting find amongst mayan ruins. Edward H. Thompson excavated a natural cave within it in the late 1800s, and because he found several skeletons and artifacts such as jade beads, he named the structure The High Priests' Temple. Experts of Chichen Itza Mexico however do not believe today that it was intended to be a temple or tomb. The Ossario pyramid is truly spectacular. Notice the carved rock in the shape of a serpent as it expands the total length of the steps to the top.
